Poem for TFE's poetry prompt

TFE's poetry prompt this week reminded me of a poem I wrote a couple of weeks ago.

For more poems in response, see TFE's Poetry Bus here.

If my poem sounds familiar, you may have heard it on Various Cushions radio show this morning. Cheating? Maybe.

Sorry, it would help if I added the actual poem.

Note: Poem now removed because I want to edit and get it published in print!

Recognise these thoughts for sure! Except most of my friends wouldn't go to stuff like that with me in the first place so I guess we have very different friends!

Liking this, now it's here, and yes, how appropriate.

This bit really got me:

I last as long as I can, suppressing the bubble
then look around the audience to share,
because a laugh shared is a laugh doubled,
wanting to ask, what is it with razorblades anyway?

Also really liked the acerbic, adjectival "grant-aided", and the hint of the "sludge-coloured midden" which leads us to the final reveal.

Although I am always arguing with my Scot husband about "shit" and "shite". He tends to shite. I do not.

Nice, E.W.

I like the Augustinian reference,
"because a laugh shared is a laugh doubled."
Much like prayer to the soul, laughter is a rejuvenating force, isn't it? A lovely poem.

Okay, the blatant, yankee American will say it... CHEATER! ;)

Ouch!

I remember this but I think you said poo at the end which made me giggle. Great poem!

your poem; my thoughts exactly!

I like it! I've often felt this way and thought the lack was in me.

Thanks for all your comments.

I am undecided about shit shite and poo. I had to say poo on the radio as it was Sunday morning and the citizens of Liffey Valley had to be taken into consideration. I think poo is too juvenile. Shit is too coarse so I used shite. What do you think?

I was also undecided about midden because I know what it is but I'm not sure others do.

And cheater? Totally!
